The Young Professionals Committee promotes involvement of young professionals in the drinking water industry in the activities of the Southeast Section American Water Works Association and encourages interaction between those new to the industry and seasoned professionals. The Young Professionals Committee often works with young professionals from other industry associations to network and volunteer in the community.

A young professional is defined as anyone 35 years of age or younger who is either working in the water industry or is a student in the field.

Service Event at

The Houston Food Bank

 January 14, 2016

On January 14th, 2016, Young Professionals from the Southeast Chapter of TAWWA gathered at the Houston Food Bank Warehouse Portwall St. location to help feed the community. The Houston Food Bank is America’s largest food bank in distribution with nearly 600 hunger relief charities in 18 southeast Texas counties, distributing 59 million nutritious meals a year to food pantries, soup kitchens, senior centers and other agencies in southeast Texas. In fiscal year 2014-2015, the Houston Food Bank distributed 74,000,000 nutritious meals. A handful of Young Professionals spent the evening putting together bags of food for the Backpack Buddy Program. The program allows school children to take home child-friendly, nonperishable, easily consumed and vitamin fortified food. The volunteers packed 1,440 bags for the Backpack buddy program which provided a total of 8,640 meals!

Buffalo Bayou Clean-Up

On June 13th, Young Professionals (YPs) from SETAWWA were joined by WEAT, ASCE and YPT in an effort to clean up Buffalo Bayou. Heavy flooding caused trash to accumulate in the trees and on the banks along Buffalo Bayou and the YPs decided to spend a Saturday morning helping restore the Bayou. Despite the scattered rain showers, the YPs made a few impromptu “ponchos” and kept on working!
